Object-Led-Research (OLR)

By Zilvinas Lilas

Mon – Thu (March 27 – 30)

Every day from 11 AM – 3 PM

At MPLab (Kurmajas pr. 13)

Object-Led-Research or OLR will attempt to juxtapose something placed in front of an eye-factual/forensic and something which lies there by-itself and in-itself, impenetrable, and existing without any regard to our presence. The path of flight during the workshop will be in attempting to escape human eye (or mind) by calling in a support by the super-eye, namely the Artec Eva laser scanner, prized for a sub-millimetre accuracy of reconstruction. With an object picked form an environment as something which is there present-at-hand (vorhandet) and presented to the all-seeing eye of the hand-held-scanner as something ready-to-hand (zuhandet), we will attempt to falsify the alleged falsity of mediated being, or reality of the screen. Remembering what Charles Baudelaire said about then new photographic media: “Each day art further diminishes its self-respect by bowing down before external reality; each day the painter becomes more and more given to painting not what he dreams but what he sees.”, we will dive further into what he called “disease of imbeciles”, leaving behind the real-istic (photography) representation, passing by Baudrillardian Simulacra, and hopefully reaching some, perhaps postmordial forms of being by finally seeing Benjaminian aura from the opposite direction.
